A big wave

It is not the size of these waves -- 3 meters (10 feet) -- that makes them dangerous, but the frequency and how steep they are. Occurring every few seconds and from different directions, they interact to form wicked rogue waves that seem to come out of nowhere. They release an astonishing amount of energy on impact, literally slamming the yacht off course while everything inside, including the crew, keeps right on going... for a while, anyway.
