In this shot, the bow (the pointy end of the boat) has likely drifted away from the chamber wall. The attendant hurries to loop the mooring line over a sidewall cleat. The wall looks even higher above the diminished water level in this part of the canal because of its need to enclose the hinge mechanism of the gate.
