Miraflores locks, West lane, southernmost gates close on the Pacific ocean

The enormous, actually floating, southernmost gates of the west lane of the Miraflores locks of the Panama Canal, shut on the Pacific ocean. An interesting, if not heartrending view from the stern of Shitty Shitty Bang Bang. The anti-cruisers find themselves somewhat overwhelmed by 10-year-old memories of those very same gates opening for them: then, into the Pacific, and homeward bound. Okay, so that didn't happen. Turns out, home is wherever you make it, wherever you are, or an intensely overrated term useful in marketing copy. One can consider these enigmatic gates, the gateway to the Pacific, or simply an engineering marvel, considering when they were built and for how long they have lasted.
